Ancient Apple variety dating back to the Victorian Era
Egremont Russet is a medium-sized apple, which flesh is moist rather than juicy and is generally described as "nutty". The Flavour of the Egremont is more delicate than most varieties, and quite sweet. Both flavour and soft flesh might remind you of a firm pear.
A study (2012) shows that the Egremont Russet, being an old variety apple, contains ten times more phytonutrients (bioactive compounds derived from plants that have positive health effects) than current apples.
These apples come from the "Les Trois Villages" orchard by the Lechat Brothers. They grow more than 30 ancient varieties of Apples and Pears.
